Reduce Water Use with Efficient Utility Management
The hot summer months are upon us which means higher utility use. As these costs rise, any form of energy savings is vital. A little while back, we shed light on what eco and cost friendly utility management should be. This time of year, our goal is to bring awareness to these high peaks in energy usage and how to adopt outdoor water saving practices.
WaterSense is a voluntary program in partnership with the EPA and EnergyStar to provide water saving resources and products. In a recent webinar, they presented several outdoor tips and tools to reduce water use. Several factors can also affect outdoor water use such as type and design of facility i.e water parks, pools, car washes as well as climate.
According to WaterSense, “A water-efficient landscape can reduce irrigation water use by up to 50%.” However, not taking full advantage of your irrigation systems can lead to an increase in water bills. Since WaterSense says higher water use equals a higher water rate tier, they recommend proactive facility maintenance tips:
- Check for broken sprinkler heads or leaks
- Track water bills to monitor trends in water use throughout the year
- Make sure sprinkler heads do not tilt too high or low
- Adjust sprinklers to avoid watering of pavement
- Measure water use with properly installed meters
- Minimize water use- sweep, instead of watering hard surfaces
While there are many things you can do in-house to save water like WaterSense mentions, outsourcing to Utility Expense Management Company like RadiusPoint can tremendously save you time and money in other ways while also helping to protect the environment.
UEM is the process of augmenting every aspect of enterprises energy consumption such as utility invoices to include Electric, Gas, Water/Sewer and Waste. RadiusPoint’s streamlined services were built into our cloud-based SaaS, ExpenseLogic to:
- Process invoices
- Audit rate/tariff
- Monitor usage for each meter
- Identify spikes in usage
- Energy consumption

Using a combination of ExpenseLogic’s algorithms coupled with the technical expertise our dedicated IT team, RadiusPoint will review each utility bill to detect invoice errors, locate potential leaks before it becomes a problem, and recover credits owed by vendors.
We have a fundamental commitment to both saving clients’ money on their energy bills and protecting the environment. By using ExpenseLogic, our proprietary software platform, RadiusPoint clients can save on direct utility costs and millions of kWh each year.
ENERGY STAR helps organizations evaluate their energy performance and reduce energy use. Organizations are encouraged to begin by benchmarking the performance of their properties and those that perform in the top 25% compared to their peers nationwide (for certain property types) are eligible to earn ENERGY STAR certification. Properties that earn ENERGY STAR certification consume about 35% less energy than their non-ENERGY STAR counterparts.
